Historical Background
The Medal “In Memory of the Reign of Emperor Alexander III” was created in 1896 by decree of Emperor Nicholas II, to honor those who served during the reign of his father, Alexander III (1881–1894). It was distributed in memory of the 51st anniversary of Alexander III’s birth.

Obverse: Right-facing bust of Alexander III with the inscription “IMP. ALEXANDER III” and a laurel branch.

Reverse: Imperial crown above the dates of reign “1881 – 1894”, with a heraldic cross below.
The original medal was produced in large numbers, with 299,765 struck at the St. Petersburg Mint. Some variations were also made by private workshops in brass, white metal, and phalanx-style miniatures (10–16 mm).
