Named after Manuel Amador Guerrero, the first President of Panama, this order is the highest honour of the Republic of Panama, instituted in 1953 for outstanding civic, scientific, artistic and humanitarian service.

• Collar chain with alternating white-enamel panels and gold-tone figures in pre-Columbian style

• Collar badge / cross in cream-white enamel with gilt portrait centre, inscribed ORDEN DE MANUEL AMADOR GUERRERO

• Breast star with multi-rayed gilt back and superimposed white cross and portrait medallion

• Miniature medal on ribbon (yellow with central blue-white-red stripe)

• Lapel rosette / bow matching the miniature ribbon

Historical note

The Order of Manuel Amador Guerrero was established on 29 October 1953, on the 50th anniversary of Panama’s independence, and is awarded to distinguished Panamanians and foreigners for exceptional achievements in the sciences, arts, politics and public life. The collar and star are reserved for the highest grades of the order and have been bestowed on heads of state and other eminent figures.
