Order of the Thistle
Historical Neck Ribbon Version · St Andrew Badge

A finely made historical reproduction of the Order of the Thistle St Andrew badge, presented with a traditional dark-green ribbon for wear around the neck.

Although the Order of the Thistle is today most commonly associated with its broad green sash and ceremonial collar, historical eighteenth-century portraits also record the badge suspended from a green ribbon worn around the neck.

This version was created specifically to recreate that distinctive historical form of presentation.

Historical Background

The Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle is Scotland's highest order of chivalry.

Its modern statutory foundation dates to 1687 under King James VII of Scotland (James II of England), although traditions associated with the Order extend much further back into Scottish history.

The insignia depicts Saint Andrew, patron saint of Scotland, together with his Saltire cross and the motto Nemo me impune lacessit.
