This is a modern replica medal, inspired by the Imperial Russian medal “For the Battle of Varyag and Koreets”, officially approved on June 5, 1904 during the Russo-Japanese War.
The original medal commemorated the naval battle near Chemulpo (Incheon, Korea) on January 27, 1904, awarded to sailors of the cruiser Varyag and the gunboat Koreets for their participation in the action against overwhelming Japanese forces.
