This is a modern replica medal, inspired by the Imperial Russian Cross of St. George specially issued for non-Christian soldiers. Unlike the standard version, which showed St. George slaying the dragon, this variation depicted the Imperial double-headed eagle, making it distinct within the award system.
The original Cross of St. George (Georgiyevskiy Krest) was introduced in 1807 under Imperial Russia, officially called the Decoration of the Military Order of Saint George. It recognized exceptional bravery by soldiers of the lower ranks.
After the fall of the Russian Empire, the decoration was discontinued, but it was reintroduced in 1992 as part of the modern Russian Federation’s award system.
⚠️ Note: This item is a reproduction for collectors, history enthusiasts, reenactors, and educational display purposes only. It is not an original 19th-century medal.
