This is a modern replica medal, inspired by the Imperial Russian “For the Defense of Sevastopol” medal awarded during the Crimean War.
The original medal was created to honor all those who took part in the defense of Sevastopol between September 13, 1854, and August 27, 1855. It was awarded to both combatants and non-combatants, including soldiers, sailors, clergy, and medical personnel.
In total, about 253,000 original medals were minted, making it one of the most widely awarded campaign medals of Imperial Russia.
