This is a modern replica medal, inspired by the Imperial Russian “For the Defense of Sevastopol” medal of the Crimean War (1854–1855). The original award was given to both military personnel and civilians who took part in the defense of Sevastopol between September 13, 1854, and August 27, 1855.
About 253,000 original medals were issued, making it one of the most widely awarded Russian campaign medals of the 19th century. It symbolized endurance and courage during one of the most significant sieges in Russian history.
