This is a modern replica medal, inspired by the Imperial Russian cross of 1790 commemorating the storming of the fortress of Ishmael during the Russo-Turkish War (1787–1792).
The original cross was awarded to officers who took part in the capture of Ishmael, one of the most decisive Russian victories led by General Alexander Suvorov.
The award symbolized courage and valor in Catherine the Great’s army, marking an important chapter in late 18th-century Russian military history.
