This is a modern replica medal, inspired by the Imperial Russian Officer’s Cross for Bravery in the Capture of Ochakov (1788). The original decoration was created under Empress Catherine II (Catherine the Great) to honor officers who demonstrated courage during the storming of the fortress of Ochakov in the Russo-Turkish War (1787–1792).
The cross symbolized military valor and was a rare distinction for officers who took part in one of the most significant Russian victories of the late 18th century.
