Medal "In memory of the consecration of St. Isaac's Cathedral", established in 1858. Architects, artists, craftsmen, suppliers, contractors, members and officials of the commission for the construction of the cathedral, as well as officials of the ministry of the imperial court who took part in the construction, decoration and consecration of St. Isaac's Cathedral were awarded.
In 1858, the St. Petersburg Mint minted 86 gold and 100 silver medals.
L.S. Portrait of Emperor Alexander 2 to the left. Inscription around the circumference (in Slavic letters); "ALEXANDER II EMPEROR AND AUTOMOTHER OF ALL RUSSIA". Under the portrait: "THANK YOU".
O.S. Image of the southern (facing the Neva) facade of St. Isaac's Cathedral. The inscription along the circumference (in Slavonic letters): "THE CATHEDRAL OF ST. ISAAC OF DALMATIA". Under the bleed: "FOUNDED 1819 | CONFIRMED 1858"
Size 33 mm. Medals were made of gold and silver. The chief architect O.Montferrand, as well as some of the highest ranks of the ministry of the imperial court, received gold medals adorned with diamonds to be worn in the buttonhole on the ribbon of the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called.
A fantastic part of military history not to be missed at this low listing price. It would be extremely hard to find a much better example than these medals, medals weight a bit.
