Description: Replica of the Military Merit Cross (Militärverdienstkreuz), one of the most recognizable and respected military decorations of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
The decoration was established in 1849 by Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria to recognize bravery, leadership, and distinguished service by officers in the imperial armed forces. It remained a key symbol of honor throughout the empire’s campaigns, including World War I.
This reproduction features the classic white-enameled cross with red border, central medallion inscribed “VERDIENST” (Merit), and a green-and-gold laurel wreath between the arms. The reverse is fitted with a sturdy pinback, making it suitable for display, uniform reenactment, or collection.
